What is your best parenting advice?

Several years ago, I read this quote by Peggy O’Mara. It is such a Screenshot 2015-12-24 10.32.48profound statement that it has become a mantra for me and helps guide my every interaction with my children, as well as with people in general.

I am by no means perfect (not even close…who is?) but when I am gone, I want them to know they were loved. And, I want their inner voices to be one of strength, courage and love.

I see it manifest now, especially in my older daughter. When she is faced with a challenge, I have heard her say to herself, “You got this, Sam. You can do this!”

Having said those words to her verbatim, to hear them repeated as part of her inner dialogue…words fail me.

What words sum up your parenting mantra? What words motivate you?
