FTE: An open letter to my daughters…

All your life, I have strived to keep one quote in particular in my heart:

The way we talk to our children becomes their inner voice.

This quote, by Peggy O’Mara, has been a guiding light for me.

I have and will always strive to have that voice be one of love, of quiet strength, of compassion.

When you inevitably encounter the struggles life brings us all, I want your inner voice to say, “You’ve got this. You are stronger than you know. You can persevere. You are loved, unconditionally.”

I want you to know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you have an inherent self-worth, that your value is not dependent on another’s view of you.

I want you to know you are not here to serve another, that your value is not dependent on another’s assessment of you.

Should you choose to give your heart to another, that love should be returned, unconditionally.

I want you to find your happiness in this life. Find your fire and chase it. We have a finite amount of time and life is too short to spend it wishing.

Dance. Dance in the sun. Dance in the rain. Dance because.

Don’t lose sight of the trees for the forest. Life is a series of moments. Take joy in those moments.

I want you to know, always, that your dad loves you.

Love, Your Dad
